Sometimes, people claim that I’m lying. I don’t like that. At least, not when I’m actually not lying - just like anyone else, I do - occationally - lie. When it comes to the issue of piracy, I very seldom lie. Most people who get into any kind of discussion with me will at one point or another understand that I think that file sharing is OK, regardless of the legal issue. I have heaps and heaps of software and other stuff that’s been pirated. I usually defend my heavy download habits by claiming that I actually go out of my way to purchase the things I find good enough for repeated use, whenever I have the cash. This is where the accusations begin. It’s just a bad excuse, people say. You’re just a hypocrite who likes to get things for free.

Most of the time, I just end the conversation there. If they’re not willing to anser to the actual argument rather than accusing me of lying, then the discussion won’t be very interesting.

You see, I’m not lying. I do buy the things I like. Most of my illegaly downloaded stuff (I won’t be calling it “pirated” anytime soon) just sits there, on  lots and lots of burned DVD’s. Movies I only watched once, TV-series that just weren’t that good, games which I got tired of after half an hour of play. I own in excess of 100 original games. Granted, most of them were bought used, since I tend to like older games (my favourite game of all time? UFO: Enemy Unknown) - but they are all legal.

So, how does all this tie in to Johnny Hollow? I discovered the website and its wonderful music sometime back in ‘03 or something like that, and was instantly turned on to the darkly suggestive electronic/industrial noise. It was a major influence on my writing at the time and still inspires me to this day. I have been looking for some way to purchase this music here in Sweden since then.

So, the other day I was surfing around at random, and I thought of Johnny Hollow. Having once more tried to find the debut album on various torrent websites, I begain looking at different ways of purchasing the mp3’s or at least the physical disc. I checked Napster, Itunes, buy.com, amazon, and a handful of others. Sure enough, the mp3’s were there - but sadly, not abailable to customers outside the US. The one swedish webstore that hade the album had only its crude, physical manifestation and it sold for about 33 dollars (269 swedish crowns) plus shipping - and that’s just not gonna happen.

Having exhausted all other options, I resigned to one last google search - and I stumbled upon CD baby. I had not heard anything about CD baby before, but they had the physical disc for 12.97$ and the mp3’s for 9.99$ and only took 4.96$ to ship the disc from the US to sweden. Incredible. Apparently, CD baby are a kind of small site, with mostly independent artists etc. They got great prices, and from what I can tell great service. The mp3’s were instantly made available to me, as a big zip-file download. Not as good as Magnatune, who offer FLAC’s etc, but an unlimited number of downloads, high quality and no DRM still makes CD baby something I can get behind. I bought both the CD and the MP3’s, and still paid less than CDON’s idiot-high price.

Had I actually been someone who just wanted things to be as cheap as possible, I wouldn’t have bought both the CD and the MP3’s, now would I? No. I’d just have gotten the mp3’s and been done with it. But when something speaks to me, when I know it’ll last and that I will enjoy it for a long time, and especially when I know that a large portion of the money I spend go to the actual artist (in the case of CD baby, about 91%, apparently), I am more than willing to spend the gold if I have it. Wouldn’t dream of purchasing anything by, say, Metallica - they’re richer than God by now, they don’t need my money; and they haven’t produced anything I’ve enjoyed since Justice for All. Just to make a comparison.

Since i got my current job, which pays me enough to make it possible for me to actually spend some money on culture (games, music, TV shows), I’ve bought around 20 computer and console games, 5-10 comic book albums, 10 books, 10 roleplaying games, a bunch of mp3’s, and in excess of 20 movies. And I’ve only really been debt-free enough to make larger purchases and still put some money away each month for 2-3 months now.

So fuck you, all of you who call me a liar when I’m not. Fuck you, if you can’t even respect my argument enough to not resort to name-calling. And fuck you, if you think I’m just a parasite. I am a culture consumer, and a culture producer. What did you produce, culturally, in the last month?

Årets chock kom för mig härom dagen då kristdemokraterna lade sitt faktiska, konkreta motförslag till alliansens. Alliansens förslag slog mig som relativt rimligt, men det nådde, enligt min mening, inte riktigt ända fram - det förbjöd diskriminering, men däremot skulle samfunden behålla myndighetsfunktionen, något som för mig känns minst sagt skumt. Nå, de ska ha heder för att de lade fram en könsneutral äktemålslagstiftning.

Men kristdemokraterna… där snackar vi chock. En av de få punkter där jag och DN’s ledarsida är överrens, nämligen att de kristna samfunden inte ska utöva någon laga myndighet, har plötsligt lagts fram av det parti jag minst väntat mig det från. Det tyder på förnyelse och nytänkande, eller åtminstone viss sjukdomsinsikt, från ett håll där jag absolut inte väntat mig det.

Jag förstår ju varför de lägger förslaget; det är ju deras enda sätt att i dagsläget få behålla sin rätt att diskriminera människor. Sker det i motsvarande hemmets vrå så uppstår inte samma problem som när det rör sig om myndighetsutövning.

Låt ingen människa säga att jag inte respekterar mina motståndare, när jag tycker att de agerar bra. Jag ger Kristdemokraterna all ära för det här förslaget, för det var mer än jag trodde dem kapabla till. De är fortfarande en hoper värdekonservativa stollar och religiösa fanatiker, såklart, men jag har mer respekt för dem nu än tidigare.

Idag: Hela eftermiddagen gick åt till en helt vedervärdig föreläsning. Skolledningen hade dragit in ett helt fruktansvärt helvete vid namn Jörgen Oom. Tänk er den värsta sortens moderat/folkpartist, som pratar om att vi måste anpassa oss till “verkligheten” - ja ni vet, vi har hört grejerna förut: Marknadsanpassning av löner, individuell lönesättning, ursch så dåligt det är att vi svenskar inte är stolta och att vi ska vara så lagom hela tiden, och fy vad det är jobbigt med jantelagen, och vi är alldeles nerknarkade med trygghet i Sverige med alla jobbiga skyddsnät, och vi lever längst men är också sjukskrivna längst för folk är så dåliga att de sjukskriver sig när de mår dåligt ojojoj, och det är så synd och cheferna för alla bara klankar ner och är avundsjuka, och alla kan vara bäst på nånting, och vi svenskar är felkopplade i huvudet för att vi inte tycker att det är något bra att vissa vinner och andra inte, och vi borde ha betyg lägre i åldrarna för det har de i England, och vi är så dåliga på KUNSKAP så vi behöver satsa mer på det…

Ja, ni vet det där. Sånt som får en att känna att skolledningen kunde använt samma pengar på att köpa in fler datorer eller läromedel för samma pengar. Sånt som faktiskt får en att känna att skolledningen hellre hade kunnat [CENSURERAT] med pengarna.

Jag tror att Jörgen Oom vill väl. Att hans verklighet verkligen ser ut sådär. Att det finns en Verklighet, som är skapad av marknaden och är helt omöjlig att påverka, och allt man kan göra är att med ett Glatt Humör foga in sig och anpassa sig till det. Jag tror att i hans skruvade hjärna är världen sådan, och det finns inget att göra åt. Dessutom är det självklart så att vi både måste ha mänskliga rättigheter och mänskliga skyldigheter. För inte kan det vara så att varje människa är lika mycket värd, och att det finns vissa rättigheter man har oavsett vad man i övrigt gör med sitt liv?

Länge leve jantelagen. Våga vara lagom. Det spelar ingen roll att du inte är bäst, du är lika mycket värd som människa ändå. Ingen människa är viktigare, eller mer värd, än någon annan.

Dra åt helvete, Jörgen Oom. Du är en bra föreläsare. Synd bara att dina åsikter är helt fruktansvärt marknadsfascistoida. Synd att du spenderade halva föreläsningen med att aktivt förlöjliga sjukskrivna, arbetslösa, sådana som påpekar brister i förslag, och framförallt alla som har någon form av vänstersympatier.

Kristdemokraterna är, när man tänker efter, ett ganska fruktansvärt parti. De rör sig i samma grumligt värdekonservativa vatten som Sverigedemokraterna, värnar om samma såkallade svenska kultur och samma vanvettiga människosyn. SD brukar värja sig och påstå att de inte är rasister. Även om det nu hade varit sant, så är de fortfarande en hoper populistiska nationalister. Kd brukar värja sig och säga att de inte alls är några kristna fanatiker. Även om det nu hade varit sant, så är de fortfarande en hoper värdekonservativa stollar.

Vi snackar om ett parti som år 2008 fortfarande klamrar sig fast vid värderingar som borde kastats ut för decennier sedan. Abortmotstånd, motstånd mot könsneutral lagstiftning, allmänt knepiga föreställningar kring skolans roll, familjens form och så vidare.

Petningen av den djupt sinnessjuke Lennart Sacrédeus slår mig som ett försök att skapa någon form av legitimitet för partiet. Man vill, liksom när Reinfeldt började ljuga om att moderaterna förändrades, vinna en PR-seger och vinna tillbaks sympatisörer från SD.

“Man idiotförklarar hela pertiet”, säger George Holmer, KD:s distriktsordförande på Gotland, till TT. Jag idiotförklarar också hela partiet. Partiet är nämligen en idiot.

Det enda rimliga är att helt frånta alla former av religiösa institutioner all form av myndighetsutövande makt. Ska man viga folk i laglig mening kan man inte vara fördomsfull. Tänk vilket liv det blir när det visar sig att en tjänsteman på migrationsverket ens har en egen politisk åsikt - blotta möjligheten att han skulle eventuellt kunna vara så oprofessionell att han låter denna åsikt inverka på sitt myndighetsutövande är tillräckligt för att man ska vilja sparka honom så hårt i röven att hans barn föds med skor i munnen. Men att en präst däremot ska ha rätt att vägra viga två (eller för den delen flera - lagstiftningen borde göras antalsneutral) människor som älskar varandra, vilket i dagsläget alltså är en myndighetsutövning (inte älskandet alltså, utan vigandet)… Det försvarar vi, under religionslagstiftningens paraply.

Rätten till en egen religion kan inte anses stå högre än människors rätt att inte bli särbehandlade utifrån kön, klass, hudfärg eller något annat liknande attribut. Religionsfriheten är personlig, liksom åsiktsfriheten. Man får tycka vad man vill; det är när man börjar använda detta tyckande till att förtrycka eller särbehandla andra människor man är ute på hal is.

LONDON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–10 million mp3 tracks will become interactive in the coming months through the new generation of Windows Media Player and the IVS audio format.
These tracks will be converted using the TronMe software, from 3Dsolar and will release the potential for 15 million new remixes of each song.

TronMe (www.tronme.com) is downloadable software that allows you to control and remix your favorite music and record your own interactive visual music video to go with it. Almost any track can be converted easily with the help of the player and, as more tracks are converted, the choice of songs will grow quickly.

The last release of the player allows an auto play function to operate. This turns the TronMe player into a home music system. Once the player is open, the user doesn’t need to press anything, their music plays automatically and the software will remix the tracks based on the information analyzed from the webcam with stunning visual effects. Control can be regained at any time, to select new instruments or parts, but it is not necessary. Users can move to the music and see what happens - then share it online.

Interactivity is the future of music.
