Looks like Sony has finally ceded to the fact that having proper motion controls in their home console is definitely a step forward, instead of having a half-baked one on their original SixAxis. Well, the PS3 finally seems to be taking off in a big way worldwide so many years after the console was originally released, which is a good thing since more competition among Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony would see consumers win out in the end. But I digress – the Sony PlayStation Move motion controller has just been slated for a fall release worldwide later this year, where it will also be released with the PlayStation Move sub-controller that can be used along with the motion controller for intuitive navigation of in-game characters and objects. The entire PlayStation Move platform will comprise of the motion controller, sub-controller, and PlayStation Eye camera. Hmmm, it does look as though gaming has gotten a whole lot more expensive with so many peripherals to purchase and set up before you get your game on – maybe Nintendo’s approach with the Wii is so much simpler and better for some?

The PlayStation Move system will combine the PS3 system and PlayStation Eye camera to detect precise movement, angle, and absolute position in 3D space of PlayStation Move motion controller. This in turn enables users to intuitively play the game as if they themselves are within the game. Capable of delivering unmatched accuracy via its advanced motion sensors which comprises of a three-axis gyroscope, a three-axis accelerometer, and a terrestrial magnetic field sensor, you will also find a color-changing sphere which is tracked by PlayStation Eye camera. Bfast and subtle motion can be detected, so it doesn’t matter whether you are swinging a tennis racket, or painting with a brush. Direct input can be done via action buttons and an analog trigger, and the PlayStation Eye camera is capable of capturing the player’s voice or image, enabling augmented reality experiences. Would this development drive you to the arms of a PS3?

I have a daughter, who is interested in all things pink and cute. She’s seven years old and lives in a My Little Pony, Care Bear, and Littlest Pet Shop world, and so this Barbie B-Smart laptop is just for her.

The B-Smart Laptop isn’t an actual laptop, but to a little girl though, it’s probably better than a MacBook. The toy opens up automatically at the touch of a button, and Barbie’s face welcomes the young user with a Miss America smile. The screen is an LCD backlit, but its monochromatic and very, very pixelated.

I had a devil of a time getting the B-Smart laptop out of the box, and wouldn’t give it to my daughter until I took the fifteen minutes required for the task. After that, my daughter could select from a number of activities, including some in Spanish.

The B-Smart comes with a mouse. The mouse connects with a thick phone cable rather than USB. As for expansion cards, it has them, and they look like credit cards. These cards have more activities and games. Controls for these games/activities can be done through the mouse, QWERTY keyboard, or the touchpad. My daughter has options as she learns about vocabulary, typing skills, grammar, and whatever else Barbie is into.

The Barbie B-Smart laptop comes with at least one expansion card, earbuds for the earphone jack (a blessing for parents), mousepad, some jewel stickers, and 3 AA batteries, which are included. It is available on the Oregon Scientific site for $54.99.

Rock Band and Guitar Hero are great rhythm-based games, no doubt about that, but how about upping the ante when it comes to realism? Seven45 Studios has released its guitar gaming controller that boasts half a dozen strings, functioning not only as a regular gaming controller for their Power Gig: Rise of the SixString title, but it also doubles up as an actual electric guitar which can be plugged into an amp. Both the game and guitar will be sold together, where experienced guitarists can go for the option of chording, which in turn is a whole lot more challenging and requires specific finger placement on the strings. Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms will be able to enjoy the game. No idea on pricing yet, but expect a launch later this fall.

You’ve read the href="http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/03/11/gdc-2010-playstation-move-confirmed-as-ps3-motion-controller/">announcement, href="http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/03/11/gdc-2010-playstation-move-will-cost-100/">details and price regarding the Sony Playstation Move motion controller, so how about some lovely photos? These are the official product photos of the PS3 Move that have been released by Sony. id="more-95273">

Big thanks to href="http://www.eurogamer.net/gallery.php?game_id=&article_id=1003302#anchor">Eurogamer, for providing us with the photo gallery fresh from GDC. There are 17 of them in total, each showing you different positions of the device, as well as various color schemes – the PS Move has color-changing globes at the top, remember?

There is also a few close up shots of the ’sub controller’ (please give it a better name than that Sony!), which we just informed you, will allow you to play more ‘control precision’ games – href="http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/03/11/gdc-2010-socom-4-will-make-full-use-of-playstation-move/">like SOCOM 4. You can also see the PS Move logo in the center of the device, located between the buttons – it looks quite cool actually.

Check out a few shots below, then head to Eurogamer’s gallery for the full lot.

Well heres some great news direct out of Sony’s press conference at GDC 2010. The company has just shown off the recently announced SOCOM 4, being played entirely with motion controls. id="more-95270">

As most of you will be aware, Zipper Interactive will be handling the game, so what better way for one of their team to demonstrate how Playstation Move will interact with the game.

If you choose to play SOCOM 4 using motion controls, you will be required to use the Playstation Move, along with a secondary ’sub controller’. One will serve as your movement, while you use the second device to perform actions within the game.

I watched the video demo live at the event and it does look pretty impressive, but whether you will want to play an FPS using two motion controllers remains to be seen. However, the dev from Zipper seemed to be pretty comfortable when using it to play the game, so it shouldn’t require too much of a learning curve.

Hopefully we’ll have the video up soon. Let us know your thoughts on this.

New iPhone 4G: Will AT&T handle video calls in 2010?

Even before the debut of the iPhone 3GS the rumors surrounding video calling had been getting people excited especially with the apparent photos floating around showing a position for a front facing camera.

So it’s no surprise that with the new “iPhone 4G” video calling rumors have got people wanting more, and with one of the larger UK operators seeming to be the main source it can only refresh the public’s hopes. id="more-95254">

However with the strong possibility of video calling coming to the US the question has to be if AT&T offers it will the network be able to handle it? Especially with some iPhone 3G owners suffering calling problems.

Although current iPhone users will no doubt be hot for the edition of video calling, will they be worried about the possible loss of quality to their service? What are your thoughts? Read more about the background of AT&T’s network and the possibility of video calling on href="http://blogs.zdnet.com/mobile-gadgeteer/?p=2609&tag=content;col2">ZDNET.

Feel free to vote in our poll: href="http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/03/09/will-you-use-iphone-4gs-video-calling/">Will you use iPhone 4G’s video calling?

Tor for Windows 0.2.2.10 Alpha

Tor is a toolset for organizations and people that want to improve their safety and security on the Internet. Using Tor can help you anonymize Web browsing and publishing, instant messaging, IRC, SSH, and other applications that use the TCP protocol. Tor also provides a platform on which software developers can build new applications with built-in anonymity, safety, and privacy features.

Communications are bounced around a distributed network of servers, called onion routers. Instead of taking a direct route from source to destination, data packets on the Tor network take a random pathway through several servers that cover your tracks so no observer at any single point can tell where the data came from or where it’s going. This makes it hard for recipients, observers, and even the onion routers themselves to figure out who and where you are. Tor’s technology aims to provide Internet users with protection against “traffic analysis,” a form of network surveillance that threatens personal anonymity and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security.
